I recently got a sew in as my protective hairstyle for the winter. I chose a straight style so that it could be curled and flat ironed. Sometimes, I miss being able to do that with my hair. Some people feel that since I have a straight hairstyle that it's like having a relaxer.
They think that I shouldn't be considered natural. Why is that? What difference does it make? It seems like people love to judge others based off of looks. It shouldn’t be that way. What should matter is what is growing out my scalp. Someone asked me if I am natural. I replied,“Why yes, yes I am”. “Why do you have straight hair if you’re natural? Aren’t you suppose to wear that kinky curly hair since your natural?” Well, if you don’t have anything nice to say, aren’t you NOT supposed to say anything at all? Come on people we must do better.
I feel like if I want straight hair, I should be able to wear straight hair without judgement. If I want to wear kinky curly hair, I can wear kinky curly hair. The moral of this story is, a protective style is a protective style no matter what kind of hair you use. You are still going be beautiful and fabulous!
